Millwall, Checkatrade Trophy and magnificent McAleny

After a tiring 9 months and a Checkatrade Trophy miserable final for the U’s against the relegated Sky Blues, it is the final weekend of a successful league one campaign finishing with a home game vs Shrewsbury Town who have Tyler Roberts the Loanee from West Bromwich Albion, where will he be plying his trade come August?

Being in the crowd at Millwall away last weekend I’ve never felt so much hope for keeping a player like Conor McAleny on the United books. United took the lead out of nothing when McAleny found the bottom right hand corner to give the U’s a deserved lead in the 6th minute, it was the same man who struck again in the 9th minute. Millwall went so quiet, it was like a library in the Lion’s Den, had the U’s taken the stuffing out of Neil Harris’s men?

At half time it was Millwall 0 Oxford United 2.

Canice Carroll was intercepting passes and Christian Ribeiro had another assured 90 minutes. Is he going to play in the last game of the season on Sunday or is it going to be Phil Edward’s last Hurrah before he goes back to his parent club Burton Albion?

In the 71st minute from the left Chris Maguire found Josh Ruffels who scored his 2nd goal in as many games, the young lad is in a rich vein of form. It was 3 nil and the Millwall fans were already heading home.

Throughout half time and before the game there were announcements aimed at the Millwall fans to stay off the pitch after the full time whistle, sadly there were a few numbskulls who showed there idiocy in running onto the pitch, as a result when the game finished the ‘Wall players didn’t return for the lap of honour.

Oxford United fans were impeccably behaved considering the news that Scunthorpe United had scored against our neighbours from down the A420 which meant that they had been relegated with Chesterfield and Coventry City.

Will they make an instant return to league 1 this time next season? Only time will tell. Will Oxford United be able to sign Conor McAleny on a permanent deal? Will Chey Dunkley sign for Rotherham United? Is Marvin Johnson heading for the premier league or the Championship or will he stay with the U’s? Is Chris Maguire signing for Premiership bound Hibernian?

Some of my questions will be answered soon. It’s been an enthralling campaign.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
