Oldham Athletic versus Oxford United

On Tuesday night, the U’s head to Oldham on the back of a 2 – 1 away win thanks to goals from Phil Edwards and Conor McAleny.

The U’s are unbeaten on the road. With Charlie Raglan missing through a thigh injury will Christian Ribeiro be amongst the subs? Charlie Raglan is at Oxford United on a season long loan from Chesterfield, is the young defender out of contract in the summer? When he came in for the injured Curtis Nelson in our defeat against Bristol Rovers I thought that he looked rather rusty. I think that he needs games to keep sharp and match fit.

My team for Tuesday night would be: Eastwood, Edwards, Nelson, Dunkley, Johnson, Maguire, Ledson, Lundstram, Hall, McAleny and Martinez. I have omitted Kane Hemmings because I think that Martinez deserves a starting berth as he netted late on in our defeat at home to Sheffield United.

The last time we met at Grenoble Road it ended in a 1 all draw. With Robbie Hall cancelling out Cameron Burgess’s opener.

According to recent media reports by Dave Pritchard the Oxford Mail’s chief football reporter the pitch at Oldham is like a metaphorical sand pit. Which team is going to hoof and hope and which team are going to try and play passing along the floor football?

In the early days of Wilder, hoofing the ball was an ugly way to play the game but it was effective. Will Martinez be too lightweight if he started the game?

Onwards and Upwards.. COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
