Southend United vs Oxford United. Checkatrade Trophy

Next Tuesday night for the 2nd time this season, Oxford head for Essex in a competition that has had its fair share of criticism. I’m not a fan of the checks trade trophy as it has teams from the Premier League. I really enjoyed the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season as if you lost you were out of the competition. Now this season you are in a group of 4 other clubs like for us we had the Chelsea U23s which we drew but lost on penalties likewise against Swindon Town we drew but lost on penalties.

In recent weeks the Football Association has come to the decision that none of the top 4 leagues in England will be extended with B teams becoming involved. Great decision in my opinion, although I do agree that the National League needs reforming so that 2 of the top teams can be promoted. At present only one team gets promoted and then there are the playoffs.

Is Michael Appleton going to rotate the squad again? Many teams have been fined for weakening there team. I think that Simon Eastwood, Johnny Lundstram, Robbie Hall and Kane Hemmings will start this game. Is it a must win? The league is important and on the 10th we return to Grenoble Road for league 1 action.

Here’s my team for Tuesday night: Eastwood, Edwards, Dunkley, Nelson, Skarz, Macca, Lunny, Ledson, Maguire, Roberts, Hemmings.

2 – 1 my prediction.

Come on you yellows!
