At Grenoble Road on Saturday Oxford United are naming this game “Military Day”. Oxford United have held many “Military Day” events at Grenoble Road to honour the men and women who helped Britain to have freedom and safety. I hope that Military Day keeps on giving our veterans the respect and graciousness that it needs.
The last time these two teams met, Coventry City beat us 2 – 1 at the Ricoh Arena. Mark Venus the City manager has done wonders for a club that were lingering in the lower echelons of the league 1 table.
In the 1st half at the Ricoh, United were quite sloppy in possession which led to a long range belter from Ben Stevenson that left Simon Eastwood flat footed. It was disappointing to concede a goal in that manner when Oxford seemed to be creating chances however another dip in concentration led to the U’s conceding another soft goal when Sordell poked the ball in the empty net as Eastwood came to try and catch the ball.
In the 90th minute Dan Crowley clawed a goal back through a crisp shot that sailed into the net.
With Liam Sercombe having injured his knee in the defeat to Shrewsbury last weekend who is Michael Appleton going to pick to play in midfield? Will he recall John Lundstram to play alongside Ryan Ledson or will he pick Joe Rothwell?
In attack would you bring in Robbie Hall and Alex MacDonald? Would you play a diamond formation with Chris Maguire at the tip? I’d like to see United show determination and aggression and get the basics right. If you are sloppy in possession then you are going to gift the opposition a goal or an easy 3 points.
Let’s climb the table and get our shirts and shorts dirty. Let’s leave everything on the pitch.
COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
