Swindon Town vs Eastleigh FC 1st round FA Cup replay

On Tuesday night a coach from Witney took a coach load full of fans to watch Eastleigh hoping to cause a cup upset away to Swindon Town. Before the 1st whistle the Spitfires were waving there flags and singing songs. The atmosphere was electric from the first minute to the last it was amazing.

I think that Ronnie Moore is a superb manager and will get a promotion on his CV come May. Unfortunately James Constable was suspended for this game as he was shown his 5th yellow card in his previous game which was a 1 all draw at home to York City.

Did Eastleigh lose the toss? Clarkey had to go to the shed end and Lawrence Vigouroux started in front of the empty stand where there were flags in support of the Spitfires.

Eastleigh started the game at a fast tempo that led to the Town defence scrambling to clear the ball. In the first 10 minutes, the Spitfires had 2 great chances to take the lead. First a corner that was tapped wide of the near post. In the 16th minute the Spitfires took the lead through a deflection that found jai Reason to just poke the ball home.

1 nil to the Spitfires. I thought that Swindon Town were sloppy in possession, outplayed and out fought by a hungrier team. I was very impressed by Eastleigh’s passing range and energy. In the 35th minute, Eastleigh doubled the lead through a breakaway goal that led to Drury dinking the ball over Vigouroux. The Spitfires looked like troubling the Town defence every time they came forward with the ball.

At half time it was Swindon Town 0 Eastleigh 2.

Ryan Clarke was rarely troubled and Eastleigh scored a 3rd goal from the penalty spot through Mikael Mandron as Wilson was tripped by Ormonde-Ottewill.

In the 79th minute Ryan Clarke gifted a consolation goal to Swindon Town through a tap in by Nathan Delfouneso.

Eastleigh will play Halifax Town at the Silverlake on the 4th December, can they get to the 3rd round. Can Oxford get past Macclesfield and get a plum draw? We will soon find out. The FA Cup always brings out the best in the underdog.
