This morning my friend and I left the Kassam Stadium to start the long journey to South Yorkshire to face a morale downbeat Sheffield United who have lost there opening 4 games. In some quarters Blades fans were questioning whether Chris Wilder was facing an early bath.
Oxford United turned out in force as they always do. The yellows were very eye catching and were on top. In the 18th minute Oxford took the lead as Kane Hemmings pounced on a loose ball. At half time, the Blades must have thought how were they one nil down when they missed some glorious chances?
Out the sides came for the 2nd half and whatever Chris Wilder said to his side it sharpened there mindsets as they looked classy. The Yellows were getting frustrated as the players couldn’t find there team mate. In my opinion we switched off although some fans thought that Martin was fouled in the lead up to Sheffield’s equaliser. I can’t remember a game home or away that was littered with shirt pulling! How can the referee and his assistants not see this offence? It’s ruining football in my opinion and so is referees pulling play back for a reasonable tackle.
Is football becoming a non contact sport? Sheffield United then pounced on a poor clearance to head over the despairing Eastwood and send Bramall lane wild. Oxford tried to find a way back into the game but it just wasn’t meant to be.
The game finished 2 – 1 to the Blades. Fair play to Wilder, he must have said a few harsh words in that changing room. At the end of the game, Oxford United fans stayed to clap Jake Wright off the pitch. Great servant and idol to the young and not so young fans of United. We left Bramall Lane with nothing but I’m confident that once our injured stars are fit and raring to go we will be a force to be reckoned with.
Come On You Yellows!
