Oxford United vs Mansfield Town

On the 9th February on a cold winters evening the U’s entertained Adam Murray’s Stags’ side. In the Stags team Matt Green started. In many Oxford fans eyes, Greeny is somewhat a hero as he started the ball rolling for our promotion back into the league in 2010.

In the first half Mansfield tore into the United back four. Joe Skarz had to be on the top of his game. United weren’t very alert to many of the second balls and it wasn’t a surprise when a corner from the right was headed into the net by Matt Green. On the balance of play even though the Stags were time wasting for the first 23 minutes they deserved it. Back United came and it was all square when Danny Hylton reacted first to poke the ball home. It was nice to see Hylton score as he hasn’t grabbed a goal since late last year. After the break United were able to push Town back and with 25 minutes left Danny Hylton managed to squirm the ball past Scott Shearer.

It was 2 – 1. I wasn’t very impressed with the fourth official as whenever Derek Fazackerley questioned the referee’s decisions. In my opinion the referee gave Mansfield some dubious decisions. Could United reserve the 1 goal lead? Unfortunately with the last kick of the game one of Adam Murray’s substitutes Jack Thomas poked home when there was pinball in the area.

It is a point many people would want to be 3 but with games coming thick and fast, United have to forget about this game and concentrate on getting 3 points at Morecambe on Saturday. That game in my opinion will be a hard game. My man of the match was Mullins because he had a good game and towards the end of the game he was struggling.

Will he be fit on Saturday? Come on you yellows!
