In the fourth round of the Fa cup Oxford United played Blackburn in front of a sold out Kassam Stadium. Could the team repeat the heroics that saw Swansea dumped out of the competition? Jordan Rhodes wasn’t playing in this game as he was subject to a transfer to Middlesbrough. Simeon Jackson and Tony Watt were running our back four to shreds. Joe Skarz tripped Simeon Jackson in the penalty area and Ben Marshall coolly slotted home the spot kick. Liam Sercombe had a great opportunity to level the scores but his chance went begging as no one was there to poke it home. At the stroke of half time Tony Watt made the game safe when he shot home, Johnny Lundstram was just outmuscled by the strength.
2 nil at the break. Blackburn were a class above as in the 76th minute Ben Marshall hit the perfect free kick to plant the ball in the back of the net. After the 3rd goal many fans decided to get away early from the game which had ebbed away from the U’s at the stroke of half time. Now a week on Sunday West Ham go to Blackburn. I’m hoping that the Hammers go on a good club run. I was at Upton Park when United were beaten on the dying embers of the game and it is with some regret that they are going to the Olympic stadium. What is going to happen to the great stadium?
Onwards and Upwards for the U’s. COME ON YOU YELLOWS!
