Oxford United vs Carlisle United

At a windswept Kassam Stadium the U’s took on Carlisle in what was billed as a six pointer. There was 1 alteration to the Oxford team where Danny Rose came in for the suspended Alex MacDonald. The U’s started brightly but on 9 minutes they were behind as a 45 yarder wind assisted free kick went in via the cross bar. You could have heard a pin drop in the stadium as after that flukey strike by Corry there was only one team in it.

Carlisle sat back and soaked up the pressure however on 40 minutes, Oxford were on level terms due to a great cross from Kemar Roofe which Patrick Hoban headed into the net which came on his 14th start for the club.

H/T 1 – 1

In the second half Oxford had the lion share of possession. All game tackles were made with conviction. Troy Archibald Henville fouled Kemar Roofe which brought a second booking and with 20 minutes left to play Carlisle had to play with 10 men. Appleton unleashed the latest player to join the club Kyle Vassell and within 5 minutes of coming on it was 2 – 1 to the home side. It was a great goal by Vassell.

With only 7 games to go and 8 points between the U’s and the relegation zone Friday’s game away at Wycombe is another 6 pointer.

Come on you yellows!
