Oxford United vs Mansfield.

Last weekend was a real 6 pointer. As it stands we now have 14 games to keep our football league status. There were 2 changes to the U’s lineup with Sam Long coming in for the injured Joe Skarz and Alex MacDonald starting instead of the tiring Josh Ashby. On the bench we had Jamie Ashdown, James Roberts, Chey Dunkley, Andy Whing, Kemar Roofe and Giogio Rasulo.

In the first 10 minutes United were nervy, Giving Mansfield a good chance of taking the lead but nothing came of the pressure that United came under. As the game wore on Sam Long became assured on the ball although the pitch wasn’t in the greatest nick due to London Welsh previously playing on it. On the 31st minute United took the lead due to some superb hold up play by Hoban who assisted Alex MacDonald in his first debut goal. Once the first goal went in, United had the majority of possession.

Oxford United 1 Mansfield 0 h/t

In the 54th minute Alex MacDonald doubled his tally by some great play in the box by Callum O Dowda. After the second goal, United were on the front foot playing some superb football. Danny Hylton, Patrick Hoban and George Baldock all had decent games and when Alex MacDonald was tripped in the box Hylton calmly prodded in the spot kick. 3 nil to Oxford. When MacDonald was tiring James Roberts replaced him and was unlucky not to get a 4th goal as he quickly charged down Lenny Pidgeley’s goal kick. There was drama as Danny Hylton avoided a second yellow card when he handled the ball but play was brought back as Hylton was offside.

The game finished 3 nil to United. MacDonald, Hoban, Collins and Hylton all had solid games. Now we face a dogged Portsmouth side who have won there last 4 games.

Is the survival on after a great display last time out?

We will see. Come on you yellows!
