On the 29th November, Paul Buckle takes charge of the Robins for the first time against Michael Appleton’s Oxford United. With Oxford having drawn against Wimbledon last time out and Cheltenham losing 1 – 4 against the high flying Wycombe Wanderers this game has a lot riding on it for both teams. Is it a 6 pointer?
Oxford are now 9 points away from the drop zone which is a boost to the United fans who were fearing the worse – relegation.
In the last 2 weeks Appleton has brought in 4 new faces to freshen up the relatively youthful looking United side in securing deals for Cheyenne Dunkley who plied his trade in the conference premier with Kidderminster Harriers. Patrick Hoban, John Campbell and Wesley Burns who are all strikers. I am very excited to see if Patrick Hoban and John Campbell can continue there rich vein of form in front of goal. Is this the time of the season where the U’s can go on a long unbeaten run.
Last season United came from behind twice to draw with the Robins. Since the last meeting various players have moved on or retired. David Hunt has gone on loan to Barnet, Tom Newey has gone to Northampton, Scott Davies has gone to Harrogate Town, Ryan Williams went back to relegated Fulham but he has since gone on loan to Barnsley, David Kitson has retired.
There will be plenty of passion for this game as it is seen as a local derby.
My prediction 3 – 2 to United
Scorers: Danny Hylton, Danny Rose and Alfie Potter.
Players to watch: Brian Howard
