Oxford United vs Cheltenham Town (11/03/14)

After two disappointing results against teams in the top 7 we have a derby match against Cheltenham Town. Oxford United had an encouraging 2nd half on Saturday afternoon against Burton Albion which should stand them in good stead for the stern test that Mark Yates’s team will bring. In the Robins lineup you have Jamie Cureton who, on his day, is one of the best forwards I think I have ever seen in league 2. When Cureton last came to the Kassam Stadium with his former club he tore us apart. With a victory tomorrow night Oxford could be three points from the coveted automatic promotion spots.

On Tuesday night we entertain Cheltenham Town at the Kassam Stadium who last time out drew with Portsmouth 0 – 0.

After the disappointment of the defeat to Burton on Saturday afternoon I would like to see some changes in the Oxford line-up. Raynes in for Wright and Ruffels in for Kitson or Smalley. On Saturday I thought that we lacked some creativity in the middle of the park.

My line-up would look like this:

CLARKE

HUNT – RAYNES – MULLINS – NEWEY

WILLIAMS – WROE – ROSE – RUFFELS

CONSTABLE – CONNOLLY

Subs: Henly, Davies, Smalley, Potter, Bevans, Wright and Rigg.

My feeling for this crucial game is that we go out to attack and start faster then we did on Saturday. Whoever scores first will have the momentum to get a good result. With the possibility of Kitson being out through injury I would hope that Beano (Constable) starts in his natural position. He’s a striker not a midfielder. In my opinion he has been played out of position which means that he hasn’t been able to run at people to draw them in and have a possible shot on target.

What Happened Last Time We Met

When we went to Whaddon Road earlier on in the season we mustered a draw but in this instance and with only 10 games remaining after this one we really have to win.

My Prediction

Cheltenham 1 Oxford 2. Potter and Beano with the goals. Believe. Come on you yellows!
